Developed in India  thousands of years ago, yoga has become something of a craze because it offers more than just physical benefits, as we learn from Peter Rose in his informative account of yoga and visualization.

 

Millions of people suffer the painful affliction of osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis and joint disease. Most sufferers tend to be over the age of 45, with women more frequently affected than men. This month Rosemary Skinner shares an interesting case history with us. So it’s over to you Rosemary…

ARTICLE - Case History  


OSTEOARTHRITIS     by Rosemary Skinner S.R.N.

MARY, a lady in her early seventies came to me complaining of severe knee pain. Her doctor had diagnosed osteoarthritis (OA). Having previously sent her for an x-ray and having prescribed an anti-inflammatory painkiller. 
He also referred Mary to an orthopedic surgeon for surgery. Initially she came to me for Reflexology treatment
Symptoms were pain, swelling, discoloration, and stiffness. The stiffness being more acute in the morning.

Mary complained of stomach cramps and nausea, and that she had stopped taking her tablets because of her discomfort. I reminded her that because osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease, caused by wear and tear or an earlier injury, it would not get better without treatment. I reminded Mary that her Doctor had access to a wide range of anti-arthritic drugs (NSAID) and that there would be one that suited her.

Treatment 
Placement of strong Neodymium Spot magnets over the whole knee joint for a period of six months.
Reflexology treatments over a period of three months. An elimination of certain foods, such as dairy products refined sugars and acid fruits. I also recommended daily exercise

Results
When Mary finally saw the Consultant she was told that she did not need surgery and to continue on with her present treatment. She no longer attends for Reflexology. I met her out walking only last week and she told me that she still uses her magnets every night in bed.

(CNN) -- For millions, depression stains every thought, every act, every moment. 
In fact, it will affect one person in four, in his or her life.

"If you look at a population of people who are untreated and have severe, major depression, 15 percent of people will eventually go on to kill themselves," says Dr. William McDonald of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Magnetic Fields May Destroy Malaria

Scientists from the University of Washington in Seattle have devised an innovative strategy for destroying malaria parasites using an oscillating magnetic field. If further studies confirm their findings and their application in animals and people, this would be an inexpensive and simple way to treat a disease that affects 500 million people every year, almost all in Third World countries.

Malaria parasites feed on the "globin" part of hemoglobin, the pigment found in red blood cells. But the parasites lack the enzyme necessary to break down the iron-containing heme portion of hemoglobin--and heme is in fact toxic to them. In order to eliminate the toxic effects of free heme, malaria parasites form hemozoins--"quasi-crystalline" arrays of heme molecules. Magnet Therapy Helps Schizophrenics

Using magnets to stimulate a particular area of the brain appears to help auditory hallucinations experienced by patients with schizophrenia. About 50% to 70% of patients with schizophrenia report having auditory hallucinations, often in the form of imaginary voices. Drugs offer little help, and these hallucinations can cause distress, disability, and leave patients unable to control their behavior. The investigators applied a low-frequency magnetic field to the left temporoparietal cortex of each patient for 4 minutes the first day, which increased by 4 minutes each day to 16 minutes on day 4. For comparison purposes, each patient also went through a "sham" stimulation, where patients had similar treatment but did not receive a magnetic field. The treatment was well tolerated, and there was significant improvement in the hallucination severity after 12 and 16 minutes of active stimulation. The severity of hallucinations was reduced in all but one patient. However, in the 8 patients classified as responders, the hallucinations returned after a period ranging from 4 days to 2 months after the treatment. The Lancet ..........355:1073-1075.

MAGNET THERAPY, VISUALIZATION and YOGA. by Peter Rose


Lie on you back in safe warm environment, relax.
Lie with palms down and arms loose so that the fingers are clear of the body but all is naturally relaxed, breath slowly but easily about 5 or 6 breaths per minute. 
Remember the physics lessons at school with a bar magnet surrounded by iron filings, or at least remember the drawings in your physics books. 

Visualize your self as that bar magnet. "See" the lines of flux connecting the head to the feet-- left side of top of head connected in smooth arc to sole of left foot and similar for right side. Feel energy leaving the top of your head and flowing down these lines into your feet. Feel the energy flowing up your spine. Reach into and become this constant cycle, this steady flow of energy through and around you. Allow the flow to un-block your  energy and your mind. Bring the flow of energy from an external one to an internal one. That is no longer "see" the energy flowing out side your body but feel the circulation as all internal. 

Gently allow the visualization and the  energy awareness to fade. Lie in the relaxed state for a few more moments then  come up to a sitting position. Try a few yoga stretches but stay relaxed. Feel the renewed vitality that  a freely flowing energy system brings. Magnet Therapy can be used to help this same free flowing of the energy system.
If you encounter a feeling of energy being blocked at any particular place in your body then apply magnets to that area and allow these to help your energy system free itself.

IMPROVED BONE DENSITY
"Does anyone know whether magnets help bone density?  Only I've just had my three-yearly scan and have found that my bones have improved by over 6% at a time when they should be getting thinner (I'm 53).  As I have stopped HRT and calcium supplements there must be something I'm doing right.  I've been wearing magnets on my back for back ache and the measurement there was particularly high and so I wondered whether it was the magnets.  What do you know ?......UK

We have no knowledge of any test done on improved Bone Density. However there has been several tests done on improving bone fracture healing times using pulsed magnetic fields.

A group of 83 adults with un-united fractures were examined for the effects of bone grafting and pulsed electromagnetic fields for this study. Results showed a successful healing rate of 87 percent in the original 38 patients treated with bone grafts and PEMF for un-united fractures with wide gaps, malalignment, and synovial pseudarthrosis. Of the 45 patients that were not successfully treated with PEMF and had bone-grafting, when re-treated with pulsing electromagnetic fields, achieved a 93 percent success rate.

PAIN IN HIP
My mother who is 80 years old and usually very active, is experiencing pain in her right hip and below her knee. This is restricting her walking, she is quite frightened about using magnets so something simple would be the best bet what would you recommend? She has had a cortisone injection from her doctor which worked for a time but as this is a painful process it is not something she would like to repeat.

The Gold 9000 Spot Magnets may well help. They are both very strong and easy to use. The magnets themselves can be re-used for up to ten years. Although the plasters which attach them to the skin need changing regularly.

We stock spare plasters (SP-2) but you could cut up and use any normal plasters to re-attach them.

 

 

 

BI-POLAR DISORDER

In any of your range of products do you have any items that will help with bi-polar disorder?......USA

Bipolar Disorder--which is also known as manic-depression, is a mental illness involving episodes of serious mania and depression. The person's mood usually swings from overly "high" and irritable to sad and hopeless, and then back again, with periods of normal mood in between.

Although the name suggests a link with magnetism, we do not have any knowledge of any form of treatment using 'magnetic devices' . If we do learn of any we will keep you informed. A FEW QUESTIONS

Just a few questions.....UK 

1.  Can you wear too many magnetic items?  i.e., a ring, bracelet and ankle chain.
     (A) No, you can not wear to many 'magnetic therapy' items.....
2.  Does the wearing of an item only work on that particular place e.g., a ring, does it only work on that 
     finger or the whole hand.
     (A) Rings tend to help the whole hand....but it always better to apply the 'magnetic therapy' directly to the problem area.
3.  If wearing a necklace should you take it off before putting on the neck wrap?
     (A) From a 'magnetic therapy' you could wear both, but from a practical point of view it may be both 
          difficult  and uncomfortable, so it may be better to just use one.

 

 

RESTLESS LEGS SYNDROME

My husband suffers from 'restless legs' at night, which means he very seldom gets a good nights sleep. Would magnetic therapy help and would the knee support wrap be the best?......UK

Restless Legs Syndrome: People with this problem complain of discomfort in their legs (sometimes even arms) that is difficult to describe (often described as "ants crawling up the insides of my legs") and control. The discomfort makes them want to move their legs ( to get up and walk or often even resorting to vigorous exercise) to gain relief. Their legs feel "restless" and this may be associated with other unpleasant sensations including "pins and needles", muscle twitching, or aching. These symptoms generally occur when the patient is sitting quietly or lying in bed.


Wearing the Green Insoles in a pair of sock in bed at night may well help this condition. We have had good feedback on this problem using the Green Insoles before. Here are a couple of links to sites who can give you more help and advice.

TINNITUS

I found your site while searching for tinnitus (ringing in the ears) solutions. I cannot find what products you 
have for this. Please help......UK

Do you have any information on the use of magnets to assist with the relief of tinnitus......USA

Tinnitus - This name is given to the experience of noises in the head and/or ears, when no corresponding external sound is present. Feelings of pressure and fullness or pain in or around the ears may accompany the tinnitus. Fifty different sounds have been reported, from high-pitched hissing, sizzling, ringing and buzzing, to chirping, clicking, and low, rushing, booming, roaring, and engine-like sounds; also pulsing and thumping sensations. Several noises may be heard simultaneously.

 

The Ferrite 800 Spot Magnets placed around the ear often helps ! It is better not to use the very strong magnets.
