TWO MINUTES OF MAGNETIC STIMULATION CAN CHANGE 
YOUR BRAIN FOR AN HOUR.

A couple of minutes is all it takes to 'knock out' bits of your brain for an hour, according to a new study by a University College London (UCL) team. The team have been working on ways to improve a method known as Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and are now using their adapted version of TMS to investigate possible treatments for stroke patients or those with Parkinson's disease.

In the latest issue of the journal Neuron, Professor John Rothwell and colleagues from UCL's Institute of Neurology discovered ways to improve TMS to produce effects on the brain that last for more than an hour after only 40 seconds of stimulation. Longer-lasting effects will enable scientists to use TMS to modify brain activity in conditions ranging from depression to brain damage. FULL ARTICLE

IMPROVED RECIPE FOR MAGNETIC BRAIN STIMULATION.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), in which the brain is stimulated using a magnetic coil held outside the skull, has shown some promise in both studying the brain and in treating mental disorders such as depression, epilepsy, and Parkinson's disease. Such magnetic fields induce tiny electrical currents inside the skull that alter the activity of neural pathways. While TMS offers the advantages of relative safety and noninvasiveness, the results of its use in both research and treatment have been disappointing. In human studies, neurological effects of TMS have been transient, rarely lasting longer than 30 minutes. Now, researchers led by John Rothwell of the Institute of Neurology at University College London have devised a new TMS method that produces rapid, consistent, and controllable changes in the motor cortex of humans that last more than an hour. Their findings offer the potential for both more useful research studies using TMS as well as greater therapeutic application. FULL ARTICLE

MIGRAINE & MAGNETS

TRIGGER TO START A MIGRAINE
Experience has shown that there are three basic Migraine triggers, A) intolerance of certain types of food, B) stress and C) hormone cycles. Each individual sufferer may have different trigger levels of stress, different foods or different chemical messengers ( hormones) that start the migraine. In many people  it is the combination of factors that causes the problem and this combination is not always static. That is, the actual cause may be variable.

EARLY TREATMENT
Experience with many sufferers indicates that muscular tension in the upper back and shoulders, particularly between the shoulder blade and the spine, is present just before and during an attack.

USE OF SMALL MAGNETS TO REDUCE THE PAIN OF A MIGRAINE

As soon as the first early warning signal is received, adhere the magnets in place ( north seeking pole touching the skin) on the upper back between the shoulder blades, on the top of the feet and on the head.

You will need help fixing magnets to the positions on the back, in all cases the magnet should have the north  seeking pole touching the skin.  The magnets should be left in place until all symptoms or danger signals have passed.  Pain killers and any other treatments can be used at the same time.  Try to relax. If a hot or warm bath helps then apply magnets after drying off thoroughly.

The  points where the magnets should go are as follows:
Stick magnets (both sides on the spine  in all cases)  between the shoulder blade ( scapular) and spine just above an imaginary line horizontally across the centre of the shoulder blades.
This should be between the shoulder blade and spine, about 1 to 2 inches (2 to 5 cm) above the bottom of the shoulder blade on an average adult ( proportionally closer to the bottom of the shoulder blade on smaller people) also the spine side of the top of the shoulder blade, about 1 inch ( 2cm) from the top of the shoulder blade.  On the back of the shoulder above the shoulder blade (but still on the back) about midway between the centre of the spine and the outer tip of the shoulder.  There are other useful and beneficial points, for more detailed references to the acupuncture points used.  see my book A Practical Guide Magnet Therapy available

BRACELET IN BATH OR SHOWER

I would just like to praise you in your very prompt service.  I ordered on 18.01 & 
received today 21.01. Just one question, can you bath and shower in the Bracelets?..UK

Thank you for the comment......yes, you can Bathe or Shower wearing a Bracelet but 
'not too much' in Chemicals like Chlorine or the ones found in washing up liquid as 
it will effect the cosmetic appearance. Chemicals will not stop the Bracelet 
actually working, just the finish.

No, ordinary Hearing Aids are fine......just Implanted Hearing Aids and anything else
that is implanted with a Micro Chip i.e.....Pacemakers or Animal Security Chip.


SCIATICA

I am totally new to magnetic therapy and wanted to know what would be the best magnet to 
purchase that would relieve my pain. I had an MRI scan which showed that I have a prolapsed 
disk on L5 which is pressing against the S1 nerve root. This gives me sciatica down my right leg, 
the pain is mainly in the top of the right buttock and runs down the centre of my leg to the knee 
and sometimes the foot. I also get pins and needles in the leg and in the base of my foot. I have 
had this on and off for about 5 years. I am 42 years old. I have had all the usual treatments, 
Physio, Chiropractor, Acupuncture, Osteopath, etc. But still in pain, could you let me know 
which method would get the best results.....USA

You could of course use a Magnetic Back Support but I think perhaps using our Gold 9000 
Spot Magnets down the base of the spine would be better. Although it will not repair the
damaged disk, it certainly could help with the pain.

ANKLE PAIN

I am very interested in your products but need some advice before ordering. I fractured 
my ankle 4 months ago and am still in considerable pain and have not yet fully regained 
full mobility. Which of your products would you recommend ?......UK

ARTHRITIS IN FINGER

I have arthritis in my ring finger and would like a recommendation as to 
what I should purchase - cooper or other magnetic metal....USA

I would suggest any of the Magnetic Rings the Copper is very good but
they do discolour the area. (Green)

RAYNAUDS SYNDROME

I am in possession of your latest catalogue and would very much appreciate your advice. 
My partner is suffering from Scleroderma which is principally manifested as Raynauds Syndrome. 
The main symptoms of Raynauds are icy cold / white extremities, particularly the fingers; this 
clears when the sufferer returns to a warm room or whatever. I know that a magnetic bracelet 
is not going to cure Scleroderma, but was wondering whether you had a product that was 
recommended for circulation, particularly of the hands and fingers? I would very much 
appreciate your advice.

We have no knowledge of Scleroderma. However......
Magnetic Insoles are used by suffers with Raynauds Syndrome. These are now
widely used to improve circulation. Wearing Magnetic Insoles in bed whilst
sleeping (in a pair of socks) appears to work even better.

TINNITUS (Ringing in the Ears)

We have heard of many people receiving relief from Tinnitus by putting
the small Spot Magnets (S-1) around the Ear Lobe.
