Welcome to our June Newsletter.....and what a month we have had here. Due to a lot of favourable press, we have been somewhat busy to say the least. Anyone who has had to wait a little longer than our usual very fast delivery.....please accept our apologies. This came on top of the release of our New Catalogue, quite a month. Enough about us.......we have a full Newsletter with Peter Rose writing a short and very interesting Article about Back Pain, but first here is Rosemary............

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

There is one problem with being an alternative or complementary practitioner. You are never far from your next client. I was recently at a social gathering when the hostess dropped a large platter of sandwiches. -fortunately not the smoked salmon-, she let out a scream and told her guests that she had a sudden cramp in her left arm.
She described it as a sudden piercing pain that shot through her wrist and up her arm. Later in the evening she told me that she had had numbness and tingling in her hand for several weeks and she thought she suffered from some form of repetitive strain injury. I of course do not diagnose, however it felt like, it looked like Carpel Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). The Tunnel is a narrow passageway of bones and ligaments that contains the median nerve and tendons at the base of the hand
Carpel Tunnel Syndrome is caused by the median nerve being squeezed at the wrist. What causes the tunnel to squeeze the nerve? Often confused with repetitive strain injury, it is more complex, and can be a congenital predisposition.
Treatment Initially resting the hand and restrict movements I always recommend that clients see their Doctor, and later see a consultant Neurologist.
The Alternative Yoga, acupuncture and of course Magnet Therapy. I recommend a Magnetic Wrist Support; I find that the addition of a "D-Max Neodymium" magnet in the support, when possible also helps.

Experimental Treatment Tested In San Diego
SAN DIEGO -- Joylane Weber has felt numb for more than three decades because depression has stolen away the simple joys of her life, 10News reported.
"You kinda of don't want to live when you are depressed like that all the time," said Weber. Weber tried every anti-depressant available, but her depression always came creeping back. "You just keep hoping and waiting for the day that things will get better or (for) that pill to work," Weber told 10News. However, the waiting could be over for Weber, according to 10News. An experimental treatment, called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), has lifted Weber's depression in just six weeks. "It's almost hard to remember how bad I really felt," Weber said.

LOWER BACK PAIN

Lower back pain, used to be called lumbago; as this area is known as the lumbar region of the back. Initial investigation is needed to ensure it is not a freshly torn muscle and the exact nature and position of the damage. The body has a trick of making us feel pain in a place different from the actual damage. These investigations should ensure that the pain is not caused by Kidney or Liver problems and then try to find if the damage is in the spine, the hip joints or the muscles surrounding the skeleton. There are several layers of different muscles all acting in this area (so called deep and superficial muscular structures) and each structure is made up of many interconnected but separate muscles. Establishing exactly where the pain is coming from, how deep etc is difficult and often seems to move, one day being a few inches away from yesterdays etc.
THE WAY FORWARD
Once the investigations have shown it is muscular and that there is not any internal bleeding then use magnets to speed recovery. Support belts containing magnets, spot magnets; one at the centre and others in a circle around this one. Shiatsu, acupuncture, massage and gentle stretching (yoga) will all help. The trick is to keep active without adding to any damage. Total “rest” without movement will cause muscle wastage and possibly calcification of joints etc. Too much movement, especially under load, will cause all ready weakened tissue to fail. Gentle stretching without load is needed and this can be very gradually increased over a period of time. The length of this period of time will depend on individual factors, the amount of damage, the age and recovery rate of the patient, the diet and also lifestyle.

HAEMATITE MAGNETIC BRACELETS
I'm interested in your Haematite bracelets, but can't find information on your website which explains 'Haematite', e.g. how they differ from the magnetic bracelet range (apart from being a different style)....UK
Haematite is a Natural Substance similar to Rock or Crystal which is also naturally magnetic. This can be increased electronically. The major benefit (besides looking good) is that it does not contain metal. Which is a major benefit to people with sensitive skin and allergies to many different types of metal.

MAGNETIC PROPERTIES
Do magnetic bracelets loose or have their magnetic properties diminished over time?....UK
All 'magnets' lose there strength (Gauss) over a period of time. Without getting into the physics.....a rule of thumb is the more expensive the magnets are the better they hold there magnetism.

MAGNETIC BRACELET STRENGTH
Is a bracelet with a higher gauss rating have more effective therapeutic value?...UK
The term therapeutic is a little ambiguous......if you mean 'pain relief' loosely you could say 'yes' the higher the strength the better...but very loosely. After a certain level around 2000 gauss, the 'pain relief' does not improve much.......then the 'magnetic field' becomes important. On the other hand if by therapeutic you mean say relief of migraine,
we have found lower strength (gauss) works better.

SWELLING IN FINGERS
Is there any information as to where you wear the different types of magnets
and which areas of the body they affect? I have arthritic swelling in the
fingers . The bracelets seem the obvious choice but I would like your
confirmation......UK

Yes, it is quite common for people to wear several pieces of Magnetic Jewellery at the same time. Magnetic Therapy is 'more effective' when the Jewellery/Body Wrap/Device is on or very near the problem area.
