Welcome to our APRIL Newsletter.....slightly late this month with the Public Holiday and General Election this week here in the UK. Again this month some very interesting features. MAGNETIC THERAPY DRAWING NEARER TO FDA APPROVAL

Small magnets worn near the body for pain have been popular with many pain sufferers. The experimental therapy is getting a boost in Tucson, Arizona, where the Advanced Magnetic Research Institute will be opening a clinic. The clinic will be equipped with a 10,000-pound magnet, which will be used to create a powerful magnetic field that penetrates the body of patients.

Doctors say that magnetic therapy can heal any kind of pain, from arthritis to migraine headaches, and that it offers some hope for diseases such as Parkinson's and cerebral palsy. Magnetic therapy is currently in the final stage of FDA approval, and is still considered experimental.

MAGNETIC WAVES, A POSSIBLE CURE FOR ALZHEIMER'S

Exposing an Alzheimer's patient's head to magnetic waves helps increase brain functioning, scientists have discovered. The effect lasted for only four minutes, but researchers at the Montreal Jewish General Hospital say the discovery heralds the future to treatment of the degenerative disorder, reports Xinhua.  
"We are excited because this is proof of concept showing that perhaps this approach may be beneficial," said Howard Chertkow, one of the members of the research team, adding that the benefits will increase in the near future. The scientists, who applied Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to the heads of Alzheimer's patients, discovered that the respondents were able to recall 30 percent more words than other patients.

SLEEP

It has often been said that people who sleep well, in general are healthier and happier. Without enough sleep, relationships and work productivity is compromised. An increasing number of my clients tell me that they have sleep related problems. Notably they complain of not being able to sleep and not sleeping for long enough. This is described as Insomnia. As with all problems it has to be quantified. How long do you sleep for? This first question usually provokes the sufferer to say some thing like "I never get much more than two hours of sleep at night".

How much sleep do we need? Experts differ but eight hours per night appears to be the norm. Napoleon, Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher are said to have needed only four hours or less. Hardly under achievers!

First I ask the person to keep a diary, to be completed every morning for seven days. When completed they are asked to phone for another appointment, only two out of ten return. "My husband snores and keeps me awake". A common remark but I wonder why the husband does not wake himself up with the noise.

The second appointment. Now we can start to examine the problem in detail. I ask the client to detail their sleeping environment. This includes light, quietness, humidity, temperature. Then we examine lifestyle. Too much or too little, exercise, food, smoking. After discussion the client can see for themselves adjustments in their lifestyle that will bring about change. To enhance their sleeping experience I recommend a "Serenity" Magnetic Overlay, and "Serenity Magnetic Pillow. I have found the "Eye Mask" useful in a bright environment. I do not recommend "Over the counter pharmaceutical products" for sleep related problems.

UNDERSTANDING GAUSS STRENGTH

Please could you tell me the equivalent to 100 gauss. Thanks ......USA

The is not really an equivalent to Gauss.....only another measurement called Tesla,  
1 tesla = 10.000 gauss. Each 10.000 part of these are called a 'milliteslas' or mTesla. 
So 100 gauss is equivalent to 10 mTesla. Tesla Measurement is not often used now. Certainly not in the field of Magnetic Therapy. That was until a recent Clinical Study done on Magnetic Bracelets (details below) Gauss is the unit of measurement that manufacturers put on the magnet at the time of manufacturer. This is not an accurate measurement of magnetic strength though, as other factors contribute to the strength of the magnet. Size and weight of the magnet are very important. Gauss is only a guideline to the magnet's strength and is actually based on how much weight the magnet will lift per square centimeter. The Earth is 0.5 Gauss or 0.005 mTesla. Hope this has helped you.

MAGNETIC EARRINGS and AURICULAR THERAPY

I am looking for Acupuncture Magnetic Earrings which I got a set years ago as a gift. My Partner in Japan would like to sell it and do you carry such products? I got it in a plastic gift box inside with a metal piece where the magnets  are stored on both side and a brief introduction about the acupuncture points on the ear. I searched your websites but couldn't find such products! Thanks for your reply!

NOTE - Magnets can and are used on Acupuncture Points instead of Needles. These are not a powerful as needles instantly, though in some conditions can be better because they can be left in position for long periods of time 'unlike needles' which are usually only in place for a few minutes.

Sorry, we do not stock Magnetic Earrings. This is because the Acupuncture points on the ear area (Auricular) are very sensitive. Treating this area is quite a specialized therapy (Auricular Therapy) and earrings tend to be a little clumsy and very difficult to get the correct positions on the ear. We do stock a range of Spot Magnets (S-1) and also Spare Plasters as the Magnets S-1 come on small plasters which can be attached the small Auricular Points on the Ear. You can see the S-1 Spot Magnets here....but again you do really need to know where to put them and also be accurate doing it.


ARTIFICIAL JOINTS and MAGNETIC THERAPY

I am very interested in ordering a magnetic bracelet but before doing so
need to check whether or not I would be suitable.  I have just read an
article which says that magnets should not be used if you have an
artificial joint - and I have two!.....UK

There is usually no problem with using Magnetic Therapy with artificial joints.
We do not recommend using Magnets until at least six month after any major surgery, to give the natural healing time to work. And we of course never recommend using magnets whatsoever, where a 'microchip' has been installed like in a PACEMAKER. However, a lot of people worldwide with all sorts of artificial joints and limbs use Magnetic Therapy. If in any doubt though, have a word with your doctor. Most are now quite aware of Magnetic Therapy.

On a recent trip to the UK I bought the Snore Free product with I find very effective. Just a quick question regarding cleaning is it sufficient to hold under the tap and rinse with warm water ? I don't want to damage the effectiveness of the magnets.....USA
