Welcome to our January Newsletter........This month we have seen a great deal of news coverage about mobile/cell phones and the low level radiation pollution. We have covered some points about this in this Newsletter. Rosemary Skinner is on a working holiday in South Africa at the moment, we here in the UK hope she brings some of that weather back with her.

MAGNETIC FIELDS MAY HELP SMOKERS QUIT By Karla Gale

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Smokers exposed to repeated pulses of magnetic energy via a coil-shaped stimulator placed on the head apparently smoke less afterwards, German doctors report. This technique, called high-frequency repetitive Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) may eventually be used to reduce cigarette smoking among individuals who want to quit. Repetitive TMS, sometimes used to treat depression, "is a novel approach that has never been tried before" for smoking cessation, lead author Dr. Peter Eichhammer told Reuters Health. Drugs, such as bupropion or nicotine replacement, are commonly prescribed for patients when they decide to stop smoking. Eichhammer explained that his team studied TMS because it specifically "targets areas related to the brain's reward system." Hence, TMS avoids side effects caused by drugs that affect other areas of the brain not involved in cravings. FULL REPORT

NEWS REPORT - Mobile Phones Debate

BASE STATIONS 'SAFER' THAN PHONES

A physics professor who advised the government on mobile phone radiation says the public has little to fear from base stations. Professor Lawrie Challis, from the University of Nottingham, expressed surprise at the strength of public concern about the stations. He said radiation levels from base stations were so small that a few seconds speaking on a mobile phone was equivalent to standing in the direct beam of a base station for 24 hours.

Exposure from base stations was at least 1,000 times less than from mobile phones, he said. Professor Challis said: "As a scientist I think it's surprising that someone who uses a mobile phone and gets far more exposure from that should be concerned about base stations." FULL BBC REPORT

MAGNETISM POWERS MOBILE HEADSET
A mobile phone headset based on magnetic technology has been developed by a US company.

Aura Communications says its wireless headset is cheaper and lasts longer than ones based on radio frequency technology such as Bluetooth. The device uses a form of magnetic induction to transmit the signal from the mobile to the earpiece. "The magnetic field creates this bubble that is uniquely associated with the user and the bubble moves around you," said Vince Palermo, Aura's Chief Technology Officer.
"You can never have someone else's call. The unit jumps to a different frequency if someone next to you has a similar headset," he told BBC News Online. FULL BBC REPORT

CHINA & EUROPE SPACE PROJECT LAUNCHED.
China and the European Union have launched a space mission to study the Earth's Magnetic Fields.

The Double Star mission - which involves two spacecraft - is the first joint project between China and the European Space Agency. The first spacecraft blasted off early on Tuesday aboard a Chinese Long March 2C/SM rocket from a base in the town of Xichang in south-west China. The second will be launched in about six months' time. The spacecraft will study how the magnetised and charged particles streaming off the Sun affect Earth. In extreme cases, this ejected material can interfere with communications and power lines, and even damage electronic components on orbiting satellites. FULL BBC REPORT

MAGNETS AND BLOOD FLOW by Peter Rose FSI

Do not use magnets where bleeding, internal or external, is still occurring.
To heal severed capillaries and blood vessels the blood flow needs to be reduced and local blood flow restricted. Magnets will have the opposite effect. How to best use small fixed magnets to improve blood flow. Place the magnets in a circle around the area where an improvement is desirable. The magnets are best placed about 2 inches (5cm) apart around the limb and above the problem area (i.e. Between the heart and the problem area) In circumstances away from a limb, e.g. the lower back, Placing magnets in a circle around a painful area improves the blood flow in the capillaries, this improves the conducting of nutrients to the injured site and removal of waste products away from it.

WHY MAGNETS GIVE BENEFIT
Placing a series of magnets around a tube that carries "semi-viscous fluid" improves the flow of that fluid. So if magnets are placed at say 2 inch ( 4.5cm) spacing around an arm then the flow of blood within the arm is improved. The level of improvement is dependent on a combination of many factors, including the strength of the magnets the thickness of the arm the fat layer between the magnets and the blood vessels the viscosity of the blood and the blood pressure/flow rate combination. The effects of magnetic fields on blood flow still needs a great deal of research, as does many aspects of the interrelationship between humans and electromagnetic forces.

ELECTROMAGNETIC FORCES
There is great controversy over the effects of high voltage electrical power transmission lines and the health of people living in close proximity to these. The transmission of alternating electrical energy along a wire creates a magnetic field. All of us are subjected to invasion by forms of energy that are not natural to life. Radio waves, X rays, micro wave transmissions, TV transmissions, the list is long but all of these are energy forces that constantly invade our bodies. There are as many views on the effects of these as there are experts to give the views, but all are relatively unnatural at the intensity and level we are now subjected to. The use of fixed (static) magnets may restore some balance and normality, it is even possible that use of magnets in the ways described in this book will assist the body to cope with the increased numbers of free radicals that out modern bodies are subjected to. Free radicals are the oxygen molecules that have an electron missing. This shows a connection with electromagnetic forces and so to magnetic forces.

TWO FOLD BENEFIT USING MAGNETS
This all indicates the possibility that magnets may be used to improve both the flow and the quality of blood. If this is the case then we get a two fold beneficial effect from placement of magnets around the site of injury. There is an other possibility of beneficial effect and that comes from the normalization or neutralization of localized abnormal and polluted electromagnetic forces.

ANXIETY & MAGNETIC THERAPY - An interesting question.

This is a very interesting question for us. A lot of customers who use Magnetic Therapy regularly frequently say "they feel better" other companies use the term the 'feel good factor'.
We have tried to find out more about this experience (many customers over many years) and are coming to the conclusion that 'yes' Magnetic Therapy does appear to reduce anxiety in people who are susceptible to this problem. The loose fitting Chain Bracelets appear to work the best, and we do now have a clue to why it appears to work so well. However we can not 'prove' this and as with our general policy, we do not make any claims.

We would be very interested in your opinions on this subject ? ANXIETY

TWO BRACELETS AT THE SAME TIME

Thank you for my recent order. Everything is fine with it. But I have a question. My husband is now wearing two magnetic bracelets at the same time (on each wrist.) One is the Dickens premier chain bracelet the other a uni-pole bracelet mark 2. Is this advisable? Looking forward to your reply.....UK

It will not do any harm whatsoever.......However it may not increase the effectiveness either......try always getting a Magnet/Magnetic product on (or very near to) the problem area. This would certainly be worth the effort.

MAGNETIC DOG COLLARS & MICRO CHIPS

I have been looking at your recent magnetic therapy book, and I see that you state that the magnetic dog collar is not suitable for micro-chipped pets. I would like to know the reason for this, as most pets are micro-chipped now. thank you for your help......UK

Yes, the dog collar is not suitable if the Micro Chip is placed in the neck.....which most are.
The Magnetic Mat is alright though and so to is the Magnetic Animal Water Pad.

Just a point here......The Collar is not in any way unsafe....it is only that it could upset the chip itself and make chip/security/identity tag useless....we are actually working on this now.....and hope in the near future....to be able to produce a magnetic collar (dogs & cats) that will not have any chance of
interfering with the chip. But at the moment it could.

PACEMAKERS

I would like to inquire if there is any problem with having a pacemaker and sleeping on a magnetic underlay.......UK

Yes, do not use Magnetic Therapy whatsoever if you have a pacemaker !
This is an absolute......do not use a magnetic underlay......or any magnetic device as this could interfere with the micro-chip inside the pacemaker.

ANIMAL WATER BOWL PADS & MICRO-CHIPS

Just checking if the animal water pad is ok to use for dogs with micro-chips. I note that dog collars are NOT suitable). Also wondered if these are fitted on the inside or outside of the water bowl?
(it will be used with a metal bowl!).

The Animal Water Pad is glued/attached to the bottom of the animals water bowl outside/underneath....metal is fine. There is absolutely no problem re-micro chips with the Water Pad.

MIRACLE MAGNETS IN VAC

I note on your website that you say your products are guaranteed for a year. We purchased jewelry and wear them every day and have had good results. We purchased a Snore Free last year which has worked miracles and the nose piece containing the magnets has split and the magnets fell out and probably ended up in the vacuum. Can I get a replacement or do I have to re-order? Please advise as to the procedure....USA
