FIBROMYALGIA By  Rosemary Skinner S.R.N.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic and common condition that affects between 2 to 7% of the adult population. Acute pain in the muscle, connective tissue, ligaments and joints are the main symptoms while many others can be present, including sleep disorders, fatigue, anxiety and depression. Sufferers commonly report feeling tenderness, stiffness and sometimes-unbearable pain in various areas of the body. Tenderness and widespread pain are common both in muscle and joints covering the whole body. They also may suffer from fatigue, depression and gastrointestinal problems. These symptoms may last from days to months

The majority of sufferers are women of childbearing age. Fibromyalgia was previously known as Fibrositis.

What causes Fibromyalgia? The causes are unknown. Researchers have attempted to link it to a virus, or malfunction of the adrenal gland. Others have linked the problem with injury or trauma. Many researchers have found an underlying emotional problem

Conventional treatment ranges from painkillers, to antidepressants.

The alternative. A reducing diet for the overweight. Exercise. A suggested treatment is to sleep on a magnetic bed. I  generally use the D-Max Neodymium strong magnet. It is particularly effective on neck and shoulder pain but can be placed on other affected areas (North Pole).

BALANCE PROBLEMS

We have had many letters about Balance Problems......Here are just two them........

"I would like to thank you for the knee wrap I ordered some weeks ago for my husband. His leg is pain-free now - quite a result. Mine is a different problem. I have Menieres disease and suffer mainly from a balance disorder, making it difficult to walk. I take a stick, or better still push my sholley! It is very tiring and my head feels as if it is floating in air. Could you recommend any magnetic therapy which might help. I have not seen any ear-rings in your catalogue - I do have pierced ears - but I have been tempted by the necklaces. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Many thanks.......UK

 

"My mother had a middle ear infection 2 years ago. She has since suffered with a 'wooly' head and balance problems which may or may not be associated with the infection. I bought her a magnetic bracelet which she wears continually, is there anything else you could recommend ?.........UK

MENIER'S DISEASE - VERTIGO - BALANCE PROBLEMS  By Peter Rose FSI

MENIER'S disease is co called because it was first  "discovered by a French Dr of that name, in 1861. Even after this length of time the cause is unknown but it is related to the level of pressure in the  "endolymph" which is the fluid in the inner ear. The irregularities in this pressure and the quality of the fluid leads to a varying degrees of vertigo, Tinnitus and deafness.
MENIER'S disease is rare ( around one case in 20,000 people)  but very unpleasant. Sensations of spinning and loss of balance and can be accompanied by vomiting nausea, visual disturbance and sweating.
It is thought that the flow rates and pressure in the endolymph cause the symptoms and we know that magnets can also affect flow rates of liquids. No 2 cases are alike and spontaneous remission is relatively common.

DRUGS
There are a variety of chemical drugs used to combat the symptoms but conventional medical opinion is that while surgery, to drain the fluid, is not always successful, it is the only procedure that affects MENIER'S.  This surgical procedure can also affect hearing and has been know to leave the patient with Tinnitus. There are other chemical treatments being used in the USA that involve an antibiotic that is toxic to the inner ear but this carries a risk of hearing loss. The use of magnets in the form of a necklace and/or a head band may help in some cases. Spot magnets placed around the ear and along the path of the top of the cheek bone may also help- the difficulty of holding these in place over hair can be reduced by use of a bandage but please ensure this is not too tight.
The woolly head syndrome, sometimes called brain fag or brain fog, is also described as having a blanket over the brain. This is relatively common and may possibly be due to a slight reduction in the amount of oxygen reaching the brain. This slight reduction may be due to quality of blood or flow of blood. It is wise to be checked for anemia if the condition is persistent, also ensure the diet is not deficient in iron. The magnetic necklace should
help this general condition.

"You give a warning about using magnets near Pacemakers, Hearing Aids, Computers,
Credit Cards !  I wear a hearing aid, and use a computer, does that mean I cannot use 
your magnetic products" ?.......USA

Pacemakers - The answer is absolute......
DO NOT USE MAGNETS IF YOU WEAR A PACEMAKER.

Hearing Aids...If there is a micro-chip in the hearing aid, the chip itself could be damaged if you were to place a large strong magnet on it. Wearing a normal magnetic bracelet or a magnetic back support would not normally be any problem. However we do not want to be open to any claims against us, so we say quite clearly magnets could affect hearing aids.......we though, have never heard of it ever happening ......and most Hearing Aids do not have Micro Chips anyway.

Computers...In theory, magnets could affect your computer and if you were to attach a strong magnet directly to one, it probably would affect it. However, we have literally thousand of magnets in our office and our computers are fine. As for wearing a magnetic product when working on a computer....again, we do it all the time. 

Credit Card - Disks - Cassette Tapes... If you were to put a strong magnet directly on a credit card, disk or cassette it could and probably would damage it. Handling any of these whilst wearing a magnetic bracelet or wrap would not.

The best advice we can give is "to keep all magnets away from all appliances"
Obviously tempered with a bit of common sense.

We used to sell a set of Bed Magnets, which attach to the top and bottom of the bed, creating a magnetic field.
