DYSMENORRHOEA  (Painful Menstruation)........By Rosemary Skinner S.R.N

DYSMENORRHOEA, the term given to difficult or painful menstruation is a major problem for women throughout the world. Symptoms can include pain, vomiting, nausea, headaches, fainting, exhaustion, constipation and diarrhea.

The pain can be debilitating and is frequently extreme. Many women are forced to take time off work each month. Common types of pain will be a cramp like pain in the abdomen and a pain in the lower back. Whilst DYSMENORRHOEA can affect all women of childbearing age, in general teenagers and women up to the age of 30 suffer most frequently. Women who take oral contraceptives are less liable to suffer. After childbirth it becomes much less severe.

Two types of DYSMENORRHOEA have been identified, primary and secondary. Primary is usually linked to the period of menstruation. Secondary is caused by pelvic disease and is not linked to the menstruation period.

Conventional Treatment for primary DYSMENORRHOEA can include oral contraceptives, which offer relief to most women. Muscle relaxants, painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs and progesterone are also used. A professional medical examination is always advised.

The Alternative. Exercise, walk briskly for 20 minutes per day. Nutrition, eat a balanced diet, avoiding fats. A multi-vitamin containing vitamin B complex is recommended. Structured relaxation and meditation are effective. I recommend using the D-Max Neodymium magnet, placed on the abdomen, worn overnight for 5 to 7 nights prior to menstruation.

MENTAL STRAIN  - Use of magnetic necklace to help relieve mental tiredness.

A patient who had the common but ill-defined problem of brain fag. Feeling mentally tired and slightly muzzy headed. Checking the shiatsu points indicated there was a slight deficiency in the flow of blood to the head.
The brain uses oxygen, glucose and various other "trace" chemicals and these are all taken to the brain in the blood, so any reduction in blood flow can have a disproportionate effect on the general well-being. This does not have
to be life threatening and most overworked general practitioners would not even consider the patient to be clinically ill, but the well-being of the patient is reduced.

BLOOD FLOW

Improving the flow of blood through the neck region is a case where a necklace of magnets can both be beneficial  and looks attractive. As is usual with magnets, the treatment was simple, self administered and pain free.
Thinking about blood flows to the head, I wonder how many raised blood pressures were caused by the footy. It was remarkable how many people, who previously had shown no interest in football, became caught up in the progress of England. Watching the watchers raised some interesting thoughts on stress. It does seem the short and finite stress  that is caused by  that particular tension a person feels, when willing on a sporting event, is so very different from the tension and stress  caused by  trying to get through to a call centre or trying to get the water company to understand they have made an error. May be we need to  sub divide stress into "frustration
stress" and "excitement stress". Excitement stress could be damaging to a person with a weak heart or a clinical condition of the cardio vascular system but frustration stress can damage each and every one of us.
Relaxation, through yoga, massage and any other thing that works for the individual, is vital in our modern lives. Magnets placed on the temples or as part of a head band, and in the necklace around the neck,  while  you are
relaxing, can help.
