Acupuncture

A Chinese Medical System now popular throughout the world.
Alnico Magnets
Iron based magnet also containing aluminium, nickel and cobalt. Not popular now and not suitable for therapy products.
Anisotropic
A name of a process in the manufacture of magnets using powdered materials. As opposed to grain. (see ISOTROPIC). More expensive but regarded as higher quality.
Auricular Therapy
Acupuncture or Acupressure of the ear (Auricle). The acupuncture can be done with needles or magnets.
Barium
A material similer to Strontium that is mixed with Iron to form a Barium-Ferrite magnets.
Bio-Magnetic Therapy
A generic term for Magnet Therapy.
Biomagnetics
The natural science that deals with magnetism and its effects on living organisms.
Bi-poler (bi-poler effect)
Bi-poler means using both the magnets poles at the same time. North and South.
Carpal Tunnel Zone
A nerve junction on the hand.
Diamagnetic
A substance being less attracted to magnetic fields. As opposed to being Paramagnetic.
Ferrite Magnets
Ferrite is a mixture of barium and iron. It is easily manufactured in all shapes and sizes and holds its strength for a long time.
Gauss
Gauss is a unit of magnetic strength. However the size of the magnet is just as important when judging the strength.
Geomagnetic
Relating to the earths magnetic field.
Isotropic
A name of a process in the manufacture of magnets using grain shaped materials.
Keeper
A piece of soft iron placed over the ends of a alnico magnet to help maintain the magnetic strength.
Koryo Sooji Chim
Hand Acupuncture using needles or magnets. Developed in Korea.
Lodestone
The natural magnetic ore formed from volcanic eruptions.
Magnatherapy
A older generic name for magnet therapy..see also Magnotherapy.
Magnet Therapy
A generic name for the whole science of using magnets on living organisms.
Magnetic Field
The area round a magnet were the magnetic force can be measured.
Magnetic Poles
Magnets have two poles, North and South. Like poles repel each other. Opposite poles attract each other. So, if you are seeking the North pole you would need the South pole of a magnet to find it. That is how a compass works. Easy! Well not quite. The early navigators marked this North seeking side of the magnet (which we know is South) with an 'N' meaning North seeking. From then on, up until fairly recently, the South has been marked with an 'N'. This, of course, is wrong and has led to much confusion. However, most manufacturers now colour-code their magnets, Red or black for South. Blue, green or white for North. It is also popular now to call the North - NEGATIVE and the South + POSITIVE.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Diagnostic technique using very strong magnets to map out deep tissue. This is done with computers measuring the high frequency radio transmissions in the water molecules of the tissue.
Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS)
A diagnostic technique that uses nuclear magnetic resonance to obtain the biochemical profile of tissue.
MAGNETIC THERAPY™
Our company name and our trademark name.
Magneto-Therapy
A very old generic term used for Magnet Therapy still used in India.
Magnotherapy
A older generic name for Magnet Therapy or Bio-Magnetic Therapy.
Marah-Cosam Magnets
A rare earth magnet made of samarium and cobalt.
Milligauss
A measurement of magnetic strength. One thousandth of one gauss.
Neodymium Magnets (Rare Earth)
Neodymium is a relatively newly discovered rare earth compound that is mixed with iron and a little boron. Neodymium magnets are expensive, but can be made very strong and they hold there strength for a long time.
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
The absorption and transmission of high frequency radio waves by the nuclei of molecules when placed in a strong magnetic field. Used for diagnosing biological material non-invasively.
Oersted (Symbol = Oe or B)
A unit of magnetic strength similar to gauss.
Paramagnetic
A substance being more attracted to magnetic fields. As opposed to Diamagnetic.
Permanent Magnet
All magnets that stay magnetised without any assistance. This is the correct term for ordinary magnets.
Poles Explained
See Magnetic Poles
Rare Earth
A generic name for some newer magnetic materials. i.e. Neodymium, Samarium.
Samarium (Rare Earth)
Samarium is a rare earth substance, usually mixed with cobalt to make magnets.
Shen Men
An acupuncture point on the ear. Sometimes called The Divine Gate. Used extensively in Auricular Therapy
Strontium
A material like Barium that is mixed with Iron to make strong magnets.
Tai-Ki Magnets
Spot magnets used to stimulate acupuncture points. Originated in Japan
Tesla
A measurement of magnetic strength. 10.000 gauss = 1 Tesla.
Uni-Pole Magnets
All magnets have two poles. North and South. Uni-pole magnets are manufactured with one large flat side South (Red) and obviously the other North (Blue).
