GIVING AT CHRISTMASS
By Peter Rose FSI
Christmass is coming, Yes I know I have spelt this the “old English” way; when it was Christ’s mass, but I am old and English. Anyway this is the time when we think of others and gifts we can give. Amongst the greatest gifts we can give to others, are our time, understanding, tolerance and the chance of good health. Whilst it is not within the powers of humans to simply bestow good health on one and other, there would be a lot of Doctors out of a job if we could; we can provide the means to speed recovery and alleviate some aspects of ill health.
Whilst prevention is better than cure, it is also true that application of remedial action as soon as it is needed; can prevent a condition deteriorating. If you have given a gift of, for example, a knee wrap with magnets in it, this may not have seemed the most exciting gift at the time but if the recipient slips on an ice covered walkway and has the wrap immediately available to apply, then the gift will become the best they have ever had.
You could also give knowledge, to some the greatest gift any one can receive, a book or study course, that provides understanding and insight into how to help relive pain, how to understand the body and work with it to alleviate sickness; this is a gift that will be appreciated for a life time.
How about what gifts you would like to receive? Are you one of those people who always reply to this question, “There is nothing I need”? May be this is true, or maybe you are trying to be considerate to the questioner. Either way just remember that if it is better to give than to receive, then you should also allow others the chance to give, so they have the best of it too.
May the next twelve months me happy, prosperous and full of pleasurable love for you all.
