Art-67 MAGNETS AND MATURITY By Peter Rose FSI When we are injured, physically and mentally, we naturally tend to avoid actions that cause pain. This attempt, to allow our natural recuperative powers to work, is necessary but as we get older the injuries take longer to heal. This leads to longer periods of avoidance and so we often get into a situation where we have developed an "avoidance habit". If you think about this it holds true for physical, mental and emotional injuries when we are concerned with the physical body. The problem becomes greater with each passing year. Inactivity or restricted activity becomes normal, just getting older. The damaged ligament in the knee or elbow will have healed as far as it is going to but we have allowed inactivity to calcify and stiffen all the joint and connective tissues. What do we do about it? As with all things prevention is both better and easier than cure. AVOIDANCE When we have an injury we must allow the body to mend itself but we should ensure we do not allow this allowance to become an avoidance habit. As soon as the initial shock of the injury has passed we should use magnets, massage and GENTLE stretching to keep the blood, energy and elasticity working until the repairs are complete. WARNING this regime should not be started while there is bleeding, internally or externally; the stretching should stop when pain occurs and the stretching should be relaxed, not under load. Cod liver oil supplements have been shown to be beneficial. If we have allowed avoidance habits to develop and we now have a reduced mobility; what then? This will require more intensive work, getting joints and muscles, which have become inactive, to work again takes time. Use magnets, use professional manipulation, do daily exercises, develop a mind set that will not allow further degeneration and accept that all this will take time. Probably as long as it has taken the avoidance habit to get established. Holistic care for yourself is needed In all parts of Natural (alternative, complementary, folk) health care; there is much emphasis on a holistic approach. (Whole-istic but probably due to global Americanization we write this as Holistic) What do we mean by holistic. The usual reply is mind body and spirit. The implication is that these 3 embrace every aspect of human existence, but there is a trend towards claiming holistic treatment, service or remedy, that does not embrace every aspect of human existence. So it is time therapists and practitioners re-examined what is actually meant by holistic and how it is used in health care. YIN & YANG Holistic health care and holistic views of life should embrace all aspects of existence. It is common, in order to make more precise evaluations, to split this total into material and ethereal (non material) Some practitioners assign these divisions to Yin and Yang but the concepts of yin and yang are more complex and would take half a book to try and fully understand. Over many years of study and experience, I have learned to sub divide this total existence into Spirit, Body, Mind and Emotions. With body and mind firmly in the material and spirit in the ethereal, the emotional well being of a person can be the link between the two. Since the emotions link the physical and the non physical they are vital to our total wellbeing. HOLISTIC We can also look at these things from the other way round. Because the whole is holistic, if we work on the physical body and do not try to interfere with the belief system, we will still improve the emotional health. The improved self esteem that comes from improved physical well being enables and empowers people to restructure, or reinforce, their own chosen lifestyle. The big question is can we call this holistic treatment? My own personal view is that if the form of treatment involves both the physical body and the subtle energy flowing around the body, then the combination is working on sufficient of that interconnected whole, to influence every part and so can be holistic. MAGNETIC THERAPY This is where magnets become of such great benefit. They can be used to both relieve pain in the short term and to rectify un-balanced energy in the longer term. When we can eliminate an avoidance habit we have started a path towards holistic improvement. One final warning, all this assumes "common sense" is used. A broken limb has to have the bones mended before it can be stretched. (Magnets can speed up the mending) totally wasted muscles will never be as strong as they where at 18 years old. Know and accept your limits but try to be as close to those limits as possible. ©Peter Rose 2005
