DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY IN COLD WEATHER
By Peter Rose FSI

The winter, a season of limitations, the physical effects of reduced activity; the emotional and mental effects of bad weather.

The winter is a season of limitations.
SYMPTOMS INCLUDE
1)      Reduced energy
2)      Less sound sleep
3)      Irritability
4)      Mental tiredness

DESCRIPTION
Despite doing less physical activity we feel drained, unable to do physical work, we feel as if we have done a lot of activity even when we know we have not. Despite the feeling of tiredness we can not sleep as well as usual; this leads to irritability usually followed by guilt as we know we are being wrongly bad tempered. We feel tired the simple sudoku we used to do in a couple of minutes now seems too much effort

SOLUTIONS
All if these symptoms relate to the seasonal changes to our system, changes designed to cope with the changes to our natural environment. One of the best ways to reduce these effects is to improve our circulation  by:-

Wearing an active chain bracelet; – magnetically enhanced to help improve circulation.
Making an effort to overcome the lethargy and doing at least 10 minutes a day exercise.
Reading a book, instead of watching TV when it has nothing you particularly want to see.
Do some gentle yoga.
Use magnetic insoles in your shoes

The physical effects of reduced activity;
SYMPTOMS INCLUDE
1)      Sluggish feeling
2)      Reduced mental activity
3)      Increased risk strains and aches
4)      Reduction in deep sleep

DESCRIPTION
It takes a greater level of mental will power, than usual, to undertake any physical activity. There is a greater tendency to say “I can not be bothered”. A slight slip causes ligament or joint problems, when a similar severity slip in the warm weather would pass without problem. Restless nights and waking without feeling refreshed.

SOLUTIONS
Recognise that you are feeling the effect of the winter weather, do not “beat yourself up” about it.
Wearing an active chain bracelet.
Making an effort to overcome the lethargy and doing at least 10 minutes a day exercise.
Do some gentle yoga.
Drink magnetised water

The emotional and mental effects of bad weather.
SYMPTOMS INCLUDE
1)      Irritability
2)      Irrational bursts of bad temper
3)      Reduced tolerance levels
4)      Being withdrawn and uncommunicative.

DESCRIPTION
All of these symptoms can bets be described as “the leave me alone” syndrome. We wish the world would go away; while at the same time realising that it neither can, nor will go away. We notice other people being less tolerant and we notice they moan and whine a lot but we do not accept that we ourselves are doing the same thing. We become anxious about our own behavior and we become anxious about small things that would pass by as just an irritation in the summer

SOLUTIONS
Make an effort to overcome the lethargy and doing at least 10 minutes a day exercise.
Do some gentle yoga.
Make the effort to dress up and go out for a meal, once a week- even if you can only afford fish and chips, make the effort
Go easy on yourself, you are responding to the climate so do not feel guilty
Realise that others are feeling the same as you.
Wear an active chain bracelet. Improve your circulation without effort.

CONCLUSIONS
The cold and miserable weather has an adverse effect on how we feel and act, I am not talking about the Seasonal Adjustment Deficiency syndrome but about all of us getting more depressed and anxious in cold, damp, grey weather. When there is a limited daylight time, and the leaden heavy clouds prevent sun shining through we all become that little bit withdrawn, that small amount less able to share. When it is also cold with drizzle and a wind which introduces a chill factor, we get depressed. We all have to accept a reduction in activity. We all have a reduced access to vitamin D. One way of ensuring we open out and keep both our blood and energy circulating is to wear magnetic enhanced Active Chain bracelets
