DESCRIPTION
World wide the average age of the population is rising, in the U.K.this means that by the year 2031 there will be over 14 million people aged over 65 with little change in the younger population. In the developed countries we have advanced medical science to enable us to live longer. The down side of that is we experience more of those diseases associated with old age. It is not all “bad” news. We also have a great many positive benefits from our longer lives, those who make sure they remain active can now play a much fuller part in life and use the greater experience they have.

Dementia has become a catch all name for the deterioration of mental and cognitive processes that can occur with old age. It has been estimated that only one third of sufferers get a formal diagnosis. Dementia is defined as- a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes, due to organic brain disease. It is marked by memory disorders, changes in personality, deterioration in personal care, impaired reasoning ability and disorientation.  The short term memory seems to “go” first. The best descriptive explanation I have heard is that memories are like putting photographs in an album but with dementia the brain stops putting the memories in. So you can recall old memories, which are in the album, but not new ones.

U.K. GOVERNMENT PROPOSALS
The UK government is proposing memory clinics to spot and treat dementia. They have estimated that by the next generation dementia could cost the UK economy £50 billion a year. The condition already affects some 700,000 people and this is expected to double over the next 30 years.

Causes
This is not a very clear area; research has not been as stringent for this condition as it has in other illnesses. This may be because historically people died before they succumbed and so the extent of the problem was not realised. It has been now. There is a breakdown in the flow of information within the brain; this information flow controls the storage and processing of all activity from memory to activity.

SOLUTIONS
Keep active physically and mentally. The use of magnetic enhanced supports on injured joints, allowing faster return to normal activity, plays a large part in this. Anecdotal evidence, tells us that the use of the high quality Premier Active Magnetic Bracelets and magnetised necklaces from Magnetic Therapy Ltd. can be very beneficial. This is probably due to the generally uplifting benefits of improved circulation of blood and energy. Exercise is known to help all similar conditions and much of the benefit from exercise is due to improved circulation. There is also anecdotal evidence that those with pets suffer less than those without such constant companions but the pet must be in place and part of the “family” before the onset of symptoms

CONCLUSIONS
Use Magnetic Therapy to stay active, keep the circulation going, and keep using the mind- do puzzles, sudoku, crosswords, Eat a healthy diet. Take the trouble to cook and look after yourself. Make the effort. All these things help prevention and reduce the levels of the condition.
