Art-126 TRAVEL SICKNESS-MOTION SICKNESS Sea Sickness Car Sickness Air Sickness By Peter Rose FSI CONTENTS INCLUDE —What causes this? Who is affected and prevention. Travel sickness, (otherwise known as motion sickness) is most common amongst children and young people but it can also affect older people. It is a feeling of nausea when traveling, in some cases actual vomiting occurs. In some sufferers the effect is felt as soon as they enter a vehicle others can travel some distance before the effect “kicks in.” The symptoms can occur when traveling by road, water or air, some people can also be affected by rail travel. In severe cases the victim suffers what ever means of transport is used. What causes it? Symptoms include 1) nausea when traveling 2) head aches under motion 3) vomiting due to movement DESCRIPTION The symptoms are due to over stimulation of the balance organs in the inner ear. SOLUTIONS Sedative antihistamine drugs Distraction of the victim, this will work sometimes for those with less severe problems Spot magnet “Ferrite 800” placed on the correct place on the inner wrist- see below* MAGNETIC TRAVEL BANDS Who is affected by it? The affliction seems to affect victims from the age that they start sitting up when traveling; it is very rare of anyone to develop the problem as they get older, it is more usual for the symptoms to lessen after about 12 or 14 years old. It does seem to “run” in families but whether this is a genetic problem or “learnt” I do not know. SOLUTIONS I have heard of hypnosis being successful but have no experience of this Lying down when traveling but, especially in the Magnets on the wrist *MAGNETIC TRAVEL BANDS PREVENTION Once a child is actually being sick it is usually too late. Since the problem of travel sickness tends to be known about after the first few journeys, it is better to apply magnets or take medications in advance of the journey * The point on the inside of each wrist is known as Pericardium 6. It is located 3 finger width—NB the width of the sufferers 3 fingers – up the arm from the wrist crease and centrally between the raised cord like lines, running down the arm. (These are the flexors) CONCLUSIONS This is a difficult thing to deal with and tends to be thought of as a minor problem by those who do not experience it but it can ruin family trips and holidays. Some degree of mental preparedness seems to be involved with some victim, remembering past experiences trigger the new one. Some people claim that the electricity running through the body of a car causes the condition and “earthing” the car to the road solves this, this may work by placebo effect or some people may be extra sensitive to the direct current low voltage electricity used in a car, in almost all cars the passengers are so insulated from the metal that it is doubtful if they can be directly affected Peter Rose FSI |
