STRESS AND ANXIETY
By Peter Rose FSI
Content includes:- the effect of stress, what to do to lessen the effects. Anxiety and stress, what causes stress and Physical symptoms. ...The effect of stress.
SYMPTOMS 1 Irritability 2 Inability to sleep 3 Lack of concentration 4 Inappropriate reactions to situations that others can cope with easily 5 Semi permanent changes in mood 6 Bursts of irrational anger 7 Physical weakness
DESCRIPTION All health problems come in degrees of severity and this is especially so with stress. Adding to this variation is the fluctuating nature of the problem within the victim. They can seem to be stress free one day and badly affected the next. Stress also gets mixed in with anxiety, depression, grief and exhaustion. There is also the possibility of a physical disease that is causing the symptoms, especially late onset diabetes, which has been missed and the patient assumed to be suffering from a short term stress related disorder. This is obviously dangerous to the long term welfare of the patient. Anger is often mistaken for “release of stress” and this again can mask early liver problems
SOLUTIONS Get a physical check up, including blood sugar and blood tests for liver function etc Have relaxing therapeutic treatments Counseling Learn mediation and yoga Take up a non competitive physical hobby—walking etc Serenity pillow MP-1 Bliss pillow MP-2 Eye Mask EM-2 Practice deep breathing
Causes of stress
In our modern materialist life, the old stress inducing factors have largely been replaced. Usually it is other people or at least the organizations and systems devised by other people. Certainly if you are poor and living in bad housing with small children this is stressful to an extreme but for most people stress is caused by:-
Frustration at being powerless or ignored, being the victim of double standards, feeling unfairly treated, feeling that no respect is being shown to you, being right but also ignored, being pressurized into doing things without proper preparation and then being blamed for any problems, having to waste time looking for things others have lost- especially if lost though lack of care, having your work or sacrifice discarded as being of no value.
Physical symptoms
SYMPTOMS INCLUDE 1. Aches and pains that have no known cause 2. Constant tiredness 3. Lack of energy 4. Skin problems such as sudden onset eczema. 5. Constipation or diarrhoea 6. Catching every cold and minor illness that is going around. Never being really well.
DESCRIPTION
It has been my experience that the physical symptoms of stress may not be manifest until some time after the stress situation starts; in some cases the stress situation has been resolved before the physical symptoms show. This makes diagnosis very difficult, if you tell a patient this seems stress related they can say “if you said that a month ago I would have agreed but now the stress has gone.” The mental and emotional stress may have gone but the physical body takes longer to “react”. The digestive system is especially vulnerable to stress induced problems. The loss of efficiency in the filtration and waste disposal parts of the body can lead to skin complaints. The reduced effectiveness of the processing and absorption systems reduces the energy available to muscles and brain.
SOLUTIONS Get a good physical check up If possible—and I accept most of the time this is not—take a complete holiday Learn mediation and yoga especially the various breathing techniques Take up a non competitive physical hobby—walking etc Ask your local health store about “flower remedies” usually they will have some one knowledgeable about Bach flower remedies who can give the individual advice you need.

Using 1000 gauss spot magnets on the back just below the bottom of the shoulder blade and either side of the spine, about 1 inch (2 to 3 CM) and 2inches (4 to 5 cm) from the centre line of the spine will help reduce stress that is caused by external influences, i.e. the pressures caused by bosses, spouses, tax demands etc while magnets placed in similar positions but at the top of the shoulder blades just below the top line of the shoulder and just above the top ridge of the shoulder blade, will help with stress that has an internal cause. i.e. those stresses resulting from demands we make on ourselves
Write down how you feel and what has caused your stress.- Express on paper, what you are going through and how you would like to deal with it. This “lets out” some of the stress and allows you to focus on the actual cause rather than just feeling uptight. In some cases you may be able to do something about it, once you have that focus, other times you may have to burn the paper to “let go” of the situation.
Anxiety and stress
SYMPTOMS INCLUDE 1 Being unduly fearful of future events that may not happen 2 Withdrawn and sullen when responding to others 3 Avoiding new situations 4 Extreme irrational irritability 5 Other symptoms as shown above for physical and effects of stress. 6 Treating all events as if they are personal to them. i.e a late train ONLY affects them, fog slowing traffic is a personal affront etc
DESCRIPTION In many ways this combination is more difficult as it tends to be a chronic state and to take time to build up. The patient is usually diagnosed with depression and placed on anti depressant medication and since these dull the senses they can seem effective for a short while then become less effective.
SOLUTIONS Aromatherapy Massage Walking in fresh air If physically fit enough then sports such as squash tend to release a lot of “physically imprisoned” emotion but you need to be fit to play such explosive sports. Tai Chi Yoga Magnetic jewellery Ask your local health store about “flower remedies” usually they will have some one knowledgeable about Bach flower remedies who can give the individual advice you need. CONCLUSIONS Due to the highly individual nature of this problem it should be dealt with on a one to one basis with an experienced therapist or practitioner but there are things that can be done with magnets and self help. These things will greatly alleviate the problem and speed up recovery. Stress is present in all our lives and some things that adversely affect one person simply stimulate another. This does not make one person “right” or the other “weak.” It is simply that as we are all individuals we react to situations differently. Stress is hard to define as an illness but it is a very damaging one. Focusing on the situation, expressing how you feel in a way that does not add to the problem; these help. Magnets can be of great help both in relaxing and relieving the physical and emotional problems that result from stress.
