 Description—causes and effects

Blackheads are caused by the over activity of the sebaceous glands, producing sebum, the skins natural moisturizer. Higher levels of hormones increase the production of sebum. Initiating a process which can block the pores. Acne most severely affects skin areas with the largest number of sebaceous glands, i.e. around the face  the shoulders the upper back and the centre of the chest there are blackheads white heads pimples purplish nodules under the skin and small abscesses

Be careful squeezing out blackheads it is very easy to rupture the walls of the hair follicle and release irritating material into surrounding tissue and this can worsen the inflammation and lead to scarring

Blackheads do not normally leave permanently widened pores as the skin is growing all the time

CONCLUSIONS

This is a problem that is usually associated with young adults but can affect all ages. The problem is not life threatening but can have a very harmful psychological affect. This can be deeply damaging if not treated with some understanding. Self image is of importance to all of us al all ages but especially so in young people forming there relationships with the world at large. The temptation to use in-appropriate cosmetics or to me over vigorous in removal of offending spots is understandable but sometimes this can have longer term damaging consequences
