WRIST PAIN
By Peter Rose FSI

Contents Include:- Pain in the wrist, sprained wrist, dislocation, fractures, loss of strength

Pain in the wrist

SYMPTOMS INCLUDE
1)      Burning pain when try to move the wrist.
2)      Redness in the skin around the wrist.
3)      Weakness when try to lift.
4)      Pain when turn –Rotate- the  wrist.

DESCRIPTION

The wrist is a very complex joint; the protrusions we see and can feel sticking out a bit either side of the wrist are two of the eight bones that form the actual wrist (I am including the Carpals and the Trapezium-the base of the thumb in this eight bone structure.)  The bones of the forearm- the Ulna and the Radius- join to the wrists above them and the finger bones (the metacarpals) extend from the wrist. The joint is a flexible composite one which has a great range of movement and is required to do a huge amount of work. Pain can result from excessive straining, from damage to the cushioning between the bones, from being over stretched in any direction but is more usually from muscular disruption.

SOLUTIONS
Seek X ray or scans to determine the extent of damage.
Rest
Magnetic Carpal Tunnel Support BCT-1
Flexible thumb/wrist wrap BBP-19
Gold 9000 neodymium magnets—S-4  placed at the “point” of the shoulder and in a circle around the wrist about 3cm above the wrist and the magnets about 2cm apart

Sprained wrist.

SYMPTOMS INCLUDE
1)      Sudden sharp pain
2)      Inflammation around the affected wrist
3)      Pain when attempting movement
4)      Swelling and loss of strength

DESCRIPTION Sprains are defined as injuries to a ligament caused by sudden over stretching. So you will be immediately aware of the fact that damage has been done

SOLUTIONS

Cold compress
Detailed examination to determine extent of damage
Rest and immobilization of the wrist
Magnetic Carpal Tunnel Support BCT-1
Flexible thumb/wrist wrap BBP-19

Dislocation and fractures.

SYMPTOMS INCLUDE
1)      Severe pain suddenly, usually immediately following a defined action
2)      Swelling
3)      Loss of movement in the fingers- they do not respond to “commands”
4)      Pain that radiates both up and down from the wrist

DESCRIPTION Fractures are usually immediate and so recognition of there being some damage is not a problem. The extent of the damage and the exact location is important and so the patient should have the whole arm/wrist/elbow unit immobilized to prevent separation of any fractured parts

SOLUTIONS

X ray and /or MIR scans to find location and degree of severity
Pain killers.
Immobilization which is usually a plaster cast
Cold compress as immediate first aid
After a plaster cast is removed then use Magnetic therapy to speed up healing and to retain as much strength in the mended joints as is possible use:-
Flexible thumb/wrist wrap BBP-19

CONCLUSIONS
Wrist pain can sometimes be caused by a degenerative disorder in the spine and neck region—cervical spondylitis- which causes disruption to the nerve system that radiates to the wrist and the pain seems as if it comes from there.
